Zone settings

Understand the security, TLS, performance, cache and network controls exposed for a Cloudflare-protected domain.

Public guideReviewed 2026-07-18

Settings are domain-specific

A zone setting changes how Cloudflare handles traffic for the selected domain. It does not automatically apply to every domain in the client account.

Categories

Silurian groups the provider settings by operational purpose.

  • SSL/TLS controls visitor and origin encryption.
  • Security controls challenges, firewall features and abuse protections.
  • Speed and performance controls protocols and content optimisation.
  • Caching controls browser and edge storage behaviour.
  • Network controls addressing and connection compatibility.
  • Advanced settings require additional operational context.

Change safety

The dashboard shows an impact level, keeps read-only provider values read-only and validates every editable value on the server. High-impact changes require explicit confirmation. The operation also rejects a stale browser value when the provider state changed after the page was loaded.

Recovery

Record the previous value and confirm the origin remains reachable after a change. TLS, caching and compatibility settings can affect production immediately; if validation fails, restore the previous value through the same audited operation.
